Tom Cotton on kids: ‘You’re not supposed to be like this’
Sen. Tom Cotton, R-Ark., on Tuesday said that he has heard from a number of parents who want to know what they can do to help their children.
“They’re not getting the care they deserve,” Cotton said in an interview on the Fox Business Network.
“They don’t get the care that they need.
They don’t have access to quality education that they deserve.
I hear from a lot of parents and they’re very frustrated, I understand that.
And we’ll continue to work on that issue.”
Cotton said he has a few ideas on how parents can help their kids.
He said that parents can send him pictures of their kids’ toys, ask them questions about what’s happening in their schools, and encourage them to be involved.
Cotton also said that some of the problems in education are “pretty simple” and he wants to see solutions.
“What we’re seeing with these schools are things that we know are happening in schools all over America,” Cotton told the Fox hosts.
“You can’t have a good education when your children are getting the wrong things in school.
You can’t do that.
You’ve got to take responsibility.
You have to be proactive.
You don’t want to be the parent who just lets things happen, or doesn’t do anything.”
Read moreCotton added that he would work with the Department of Education to fix the issues in schools and said he would have a bipartisan commission “to take a hard look at the issue.”
“I would say that this is a time for Republicans and Democrats,” Cotton added.
“The president has a mandate to take on these problems.
We have a majority in the Senate.
We can pass a bill and pass it.
But we need to take a real look at how we do things in this country.”
